Review and Approval of the Meeting Agenda

Members Roundtable Updates

  • Introduction of new representatives:
    • Stéphanie Levasseur, a permanent replacement for Paul Doyon, representative  of Union des producteurs agricoles du Québec
    • Tim Marsh, Nova Scotia Federation of Agriculture and Josh Vass, International Right of Way Association, were first time attendees at this meeting.
  • Self-introduction by each member.

CER and Land Matters

  • Summary of the two sub-committees (composition of the LMG advisory committee and LMG News)
  • The creation of sub-committees has proven so far to be an effective approach to advance the work of the advisory committee.

Genevieve Carr, Professional Leader of Environment

  • This was Genevieve’s first opportunity to engage with the LMG AC.
  • Her speech revolved around the CER’s strategic priorities and included frequent inter-connections between priorities and land matters. Question period followed her presentation.

Presentation: Emergency Management – Graham Gibson, Emergency Management Officer

  • Graham used the recent floods in British Columbia and their direct impact on the Trans Mountain pipeline to illustrate how the emergency management plan was implemented. Question period followed the presentation.

Presentation: Agricultural Activities – Shannon  Neufeld, Technical Leader, Safety and Damage Prevention

  • Shannon presented a summary of expectations on the part of landowners and companies to prevent the occurrence of damages to energy infrastructure. Question period followed the presentation.

LMG Overview and Work Plan Progress Update

  • LMG News – March edition to be published by end of the week.
  • Outreach to potential organizations:
    • Follow-up on the last meeting’s action item to reach out to identified organizations with an invitation to join the advisory committee has been slow due to conflicting priorities.
      • Engagement plan to be finalized and implemented in the coming weeks.
    • Introductory meeting with representatives of the Land Agent Advisory Committee
      • Potential for future collaboration to explore and address common issues.
  • Invitation to all members to complete the 2021–2022 Engagement Performance Survey.

LMG News Sub-Committee

  • The sub-committee members agreed to maintain an ongoing level of collaboration to ensure that the newsletter’s content is even more focused on meeting the information needs of its primary audience, namely the group of landowners, land users and landowner associations.
  • Steady increase in the readership translates to increased LMG membership.
  • Going forward, the production procedure will include an opportunity for the sub-committee members to review the list of topics ahead of publication. Specific articles can be requested and if needed, comments can be provided on the different topics.
    • The sub-committee will continue in an advisory capacity.

Proposal to Create a Property Damages Sub-Committee

  • Purpose is to provide input on existing content and develop new material that will be drafted from the landowner’s perspective.
  • Sub-Committee to be co-chaired by Shannon Neufeld and another member – TBC.
  • Open invitation to all members to indicate their interest in joining this sub-committee.
    • First meeting scheduled for May 26th, 2022, between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. (Mountain Time)

Follow-up Items and Next Meeting

  • The list of discussion topic will be shared ahead of upcoming meetings and members are invited to provide topic suggestions.
  • For operational reasons, the date of the next meeting had to be changed from June 16th to June 21st, 2022, starting at 10 a.m. A meeting invite has already been sent to everyone.
