Energy System Information
The NEB studies energy systems to inform its regulatory decisions and share energy market information with the public. The scope of our energy market reporting is diverse and includes traditional oil, gas and electricity information, as well as renewable energy, the role of emerging technologies, and the links between energy, economic, social and environmental issues.
Expected Energy System Program Outcomes…
- Energy system information is useful, accurate, neutral, and reflects the diversity of relevant energy issues in Canada.
- Energy data visualizations, social media, and other tools are used to make energy system information accessible and interactive.
… so that Canadians have access to and use energy information for knowledge, research and decision making.

Exploring data through Visualization
Along with making new data sets available to the public, the NEB has focused on finding ways to help Canadians access and understand complex energy information more easily. Our online Data Visualization tools now make it possible to interactively explore energy supply and demand forecast data as well as pipeline incident data – from the amount and source of electricity produced in BC and Quebec, to the locations of incidents on NEB-regulated pipelines. The NEB’s Data Visualizations will ultimately serve as a storytelling platform that lets both energy industry experts and members of the public create and share views of this data and communicate on a fact-based foundation.
