Alberta Wildfires Update: May 9, 2023

The CER is monitoring the impact of ongoing wildfires on our regulated facilities. We are aware of some companies that have reduced their operations across Alberta and will follow up with them as needed.

Companies are required to have an emergency procedures manual that includes plans for forest fires.

The majority of CER-regulated pipelines are underground, putting them at a lower risk from fires. Pipelines are designed so they can be shut down quickly in sections if a fire gets close. Watch our video to learn more about pipeline safety and wildfires.
